Insatiable Streams, I.E.A., 10 years of the Institute for Electronic Arts Beijing B.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, Beijing, China June 23 - July 7, 2007 The Beijing BS1 Contemporary Art Center is a not-for-profit art center established in April 2006 in the district of Chao Yang, situated between downtown Beijing and the Beijing airport. With grounds of 12,000 m2, it is the largest contemporary art space in Beijing. The exhibition space is linked to nearby art complexes which house artist studios, accommodation facilities for residency artists, a theater space and a dedicated mutimedia display space. August 12, 2006 Video Screening Michigan Womyn's Music Festival 5-6pm · · · · · · ARTS ELECTRONIC PRESENTS: EVOLUTIONARY GIRLS CLUB EXHIBITION ![]() Thursday, July 20, 2006, 8:00pm Arts Electronic will host a film and video screening of the work of the Evolutionary Girls Club (EVO) at the Clifton Center Theater, 2117 Payne Street. Admission is $5.00. The screening will feature "Resisting Paradise", an 80-minute film documentary by Barbara Hammer. Video works by Peer Bode, Teresa Brazen, Tammy Brackett, Monica Duncan, Erica Eaton, Pamela Susan Hawkins, Kathy High, Sara Hornbacher, Annie Langan, Rachel Siegel, Carolyn Tennant, Mary Ann Wincorkowski, Matthew Underwood and others. Friday, July 21, 2006, 7-9:30pm Arts Electronic will host an evening of Artist Lectures at the Clifton Center Community Room from 7-9:30pm. Erica Eaton (EVO founder and Co-director), Rachel Siegel (EVO member and Arts Electronic Resident Artist) and Carolyn Tennant (EVO member) will present and discuss their work. The Evolutionary Girls Club is an INCLUSIVE group of artists, scholars and activists with a focus of passing on voice, access and opportunity between its members and to the communities where they live and visit. The group has shown in Ukraine, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia and the USA. Exhibitions help groups with social activism; bringing art into public spaces as well as traditional gallery settings. The Evolutionary Girls Club is a collection of artists who work together to inform and expand each other and their surroundings. Erica Eaton is the founder and co-director of the Evolutionary Girls Club. She is a video/installation artist living in upstate New York who received her MFA and PhD degrees from the University at Buffalo and her MSW from Syracuse University. Erica has shown work throughout the United States and internationally. Rachel J. Siegel is an artist and educator who currently lives, teaches, and makes art in Portland, Oregon. Her current work incorporates photography, digital prints, artist¹s books, video, and installation. Most recently Rachel exhibited a solo installation, Seam-Sew Ordinary, at the University of Washington, Tacoma Campus Gallery. She was born and raised in Los Angeles and received her Bachelor of Arts degree at University of California, Berkeley. In 2002, she completed a Master of Fine Arts at University at Buffalo, State University New York. Her work has been shown with the Evolutionary Girls Club nationally and internationally, including Japan, Germany, Hungary, Sweden, Serbia and Canada. Carolyn Tennant is an interdisciplinary media artist who currently resides in Buffalo, New York where she volunteers at Squeaky Wheel and is a member of the Media Arts Committee at Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center. She has worked with the Experimental Television Center, collaborating on several projects, including tool demonstrations for the Video History Project. Carolyn is a recent graduate of the University of Buffalo, where she received an MFA in media art production, and where she teaches courses in film and video analysis n the Department of Media Study. An exhibition of the Evolutionary Girls Club, featuring Deivan with his works of David and materials previously exhibited at COWN Festival in Belgrade, October 2003, was held at the Sabac's Teachers' College. This was the first time that activist and queer-oriented artworks were displayed in the local art scene.
Note: Sabac is a town 80km away from Belgrade, pop. 120,000.
Summer 2004 Events
