Jessica Nathanson
Writer and Photographer
Jessica grew up in Schenectady, NY, went to Wesleyan University, and has since lived in Hartford, CT, Buffalo, NY, and most recently, Sioux Falls, SD. She has an MA in American Studies from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and is completing her PhD in American Studies with a concentration in Womenís Studies (also at Buffalo). She teaches English at Augustana College in Sioux Falls.
My writing style falls somewhere between literary journalism and creative nonfiction. I have been published in local magazines and have recently written an invited piece on feminism, miscarriage, and pregnancy for the SWS Newsletter (Sociologists for Women in Society). My piece, "Menstrual Reflections," is on display online at the Museum of Menstruation

In my photography, I am interested in presenting ordinary objects in an unusual way, and often my work reveals a sensual side to these everyday items. Most of my photographs are studies of nudes, and in my non-nude studies I see the play of light on the curves of, for example, a bathtub, as reminiscent of the way that light interacts with the nude form.
