Paik works in new media with her strong experiences in traditional visual arts. So her art works often appear to be interactive video installations which have various dimensions with both of temporal and spatial aspects. Her work throws questions about how to see and understand ourselves, and the things and the world. The concepts of relationships, differences and its potential sameness, duality, missing part of ourselves have been the keywords of her works constantly from her early painting works to later video installations. As someone who deals with English as a second language and who is interested in relationships and structure, language also play important roles in her work.
"Art making to me is the process of twisting the rope of dual strands, what I am and what I am not, what we see and what we miss. Twisting them is how I see." (from the MFA thesis "What it is not")
