Joanna Raczynska
I earned my Masters degree in Documentary by Practice (with merit) at the University of London, Royal Holloway College in 2001, and since September 2002 have served as Media Arts Director at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center in Buffalo, NY.
With my own video and film work I am interested in blurring states of time and arousing the viewer to question what historic facts state, imply, and hide. Memory films appeal to me since I don't differentiate easily between the past and the present.
I've written about media arts for The Squealer (published by Squeaky Wheel) and other publications including Buffalo's Artvoice; The Kansas City Review; Washington DC's City Paper; Link: A Critical Journal on the Arts in Baltimore and the World; and The Washington Review of the Arts. In 2005, I became a very grateful recipient of an award from CEC Artslink for a new video, Good Faith Effort: Free Elections, shot in Warsaw, Poland.
