Michael Sylvan Robinson
A visionary fiber artist, Robinson’s pieces are created with extensive hand sewing and beading. A Baltimore artist and teacher, Michael Sylvan Robinson is a pro-feminist Queer man who has led workshops across the country, in artistic, academic, and spiritual settings. In 2008, he earned an M.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College, and he has a B.A. from Bennington College (1989) with an emphasis in dance, drama, and literature. Originally a costume designer and performance artist from New York City, his art has been shown in galleries and exhibitions including the National Queer Arts Festival in San Francisco (2009). He is a semi-finalist for the 2010 Sondheim Prize, which recognizes exceptional regional talent in the arts through the awarding of a prestigious fellowship; selection of the finalists is still pending, and his work will be exhibited in this year’s Artscape.
