THE SOLOIST'S STORY - Chapter 1- WOMEN AND MY COOKING SONG. (approx: 5 mins)
[dir. Bonaventure Tain / music. Caetona Veloso/Bonaventure Tain]

Purposely shot in a greenie night shot mood, this experimental video piece portrays the
responsibilities, desires, and reactions of Asian women from different generations.

During the shoot, performers were set in a totally dark room, and required to react to the orders and
questions from the director under a pressureless atmosphere. Along with the song 'Cucuruccucu
Paloma' by Caetano Veloso, the performance falls between 'fiction & non-fiction' or 'acting & instinct'.

The overall aesthetic effect of this video lingers along with metaphorical objects and actions such
as the 'apple', 'pregnancy', 'dark', and 'holding hands'.

"Different Generations, Same Desire; Different Reactions, Same Responsibility"

'The Soloist's Story- chapter 1- Women and my cooking song' was the official selection of the
CinemaTexas International Short Film Festival, Austin, Texas; and Malaysian Video Award Festival.

********

THE SOLOIST'S STORY - Chapter 2 - YOUR STORY. (approx: 4 mins) [dir. Bonaventure Tain / music.
John Lee / V/O. Howard Kim]

By using the same shooting mood as in Chapter 1, this sequel changes the focus to another group of
minorities in Asian societies - gay .

Started with a more personal perspective, the story lingers from an individual's innermost secret
to the heart of a restless yet 'empty' city. MY STORY evolves into YOUR STORY, along with the accoustic
guitar tunes by emerging Singaporean artist John Lee.

This experimental video further illustrates the question of 'desired happiness' and 'sense of security'
through secretly shot footage, which on the same time, fullfilling the urge of voyeurism.

"This is not just my story, but also YOUR STORY..."

'The Soloist's Story- chapter 2- Your Story' was recently screened at the MOONBOW FESTIVAL, Sweden. ***********
