Minna Väisänen

Artist and teacher

Minna Väisänen has a degree in Fine Arts (MA) from UIAH, Helsinki. Her final thesis (2004) examined relationships between site-specific art, environmental art and suburban architecture. Minna Väisänen has also participated in several art exhibitions, mostly in Finland. Väisänen has participated in several voluntary work camps in Finland and other countries (SCI, SCI-Finland, VFP).

Some words about my art

I am both an artist and a teacher. "Art for personal growth and teaching for earning a decent living" might be a good description to my values. As an artist I often try to think about the consequences and political meanings of my artistic work but it is not always easy.

Some thoughts about fine arts

Describing one's artistic work is quite complex, partly because images are hard to translate into words. I call myself a feminist even though I think that feminism is so comprehensive a power in one's life it should not be made too straightforward. There should always be possibilities to approach things from many angles, different but still equal at least in the field of arts. For example when I was making series "Bodies feelings & Space" I was concerned not only about femininity and masculinity or womens' portrayal in photography in general but architecture too (see some samples in this page).

All photos are from the series "Bodies, feelings & space" 1998-2001
